Mrs. Johnson and her second graders would like to give a big thanks to Kaye Willis for visiting on The Very Hungry Caterpillar Day! Kaye talked to the class about Monarch Butterflies and how their relationship with flowers, especially milkweed, helps keep the life cycle of Monarchs going! Students reused plastic containers brought from home to create mini greenhouses. Kaye brought seeds that students planted in their greenhouses to create mini butterfly gardens. Students will continue their learning by conducting an investigation to determine if plants need water and sunlight to grow while learning about different habitats plants can thrive in. πŸŒ±πŸ›πŸ¦‹

This week is Americorps Week. Mrs. Amy Reed is our FRYSC Corps member here at Porter Elementary! Her monthly service project to celebrate Americorps Week involved sprucing up our Blessing Box! She also gave out treats to some of our staff members! Remember the Blessing Box is fully stocked if you have a need! Also, if you would like to donate to the Blessing. Box you can simply fill it up or contact the Family Resource Center!

Mrs. Johnson’s second graders have been listening to Wish Tree during read aloud time. This beautiful story is about an oak tree and a crow who help neighbors embrace their differences. Today, students illustrated a tree of their own and wrote about their tree’s story. πŸ“š #WorldBookDay
