Human body systems scholars are taking on the role as owners of a biometrics company seeking the business of a client interested in tightening security measures. They’re creating a sales pitch using biometrics applications that securely link identity to either a behavior or through body morphology.

JCHS Anatomy classes done such an amazing job on their wearable science projects. They made t-shirts and demonstrated their knowledge of the respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic, excretory, skeletal and digestive systems. They included organs and functions, how the systems interact with one another, and where each organ is located in the body. So proud of all of them.

DearJC Senior Parent/Guardian,
As you know, students rarely share the lessons they learn in the classroom with their parents or
guardians. Because suicide prevention is everyone’s responsibility, we wanted to let you know that your
senior will be participating in a 45-minute suicide prevention curriculum in their classroom this month.
This prevention lesson begins by asking students to do some goal setting for themselves for the next
school year. Personal goal setting is a strategy that helps students explore their personal agency, which
is the power they have to make a difference in their own lives. Personal agency can serve as a protective
factor against suicide, as well as other risky coping mechanisms.
Students will also complete an activity on identifying their support network, which is also a protective
factor against suicide risk and an important area for students to consider before the end of their school
career.
Finally, national, and statewide resources for suicide prevention will be reviewed.
If you’d like to learn more about supporting your student, please take a few minutes to watch this video,
developed by the creators of the prevention curriculum in which your senior will participate:
https://kyprevention.getbynder.com/web/451b0f67c670a84b/back-to-school-parent-workshop/.
Please also make a note of the following important help and text lines, which will also be shared with
students:
National Text line: Text KY to 741741
National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 800-273-8255
Kentucky school STOP tip line – 866-393-6659
Trevor Lifeline: 866-488-7386
Trevor Text line: Text START to 678-678
If you have any questions or concerns about the prevention curriculum, please don’t hesitate to reach
out.
Sincerely,
Sherrie Grierson

We are proud to announce that Johnson County Schools was just awarded a $10 million grant from the School Facilities Construction Commission to build a new Career & Technical Education Center which will be part of the construction of a new Johnson Central High School.
This grant opportunity was provided through House Bill 556 which allocated $75 million for the renovation or construction of Locally Operated Career and Technical Centers with a maximum award of $10 million. Johnson County was one of 32 districts who applied for the funding and one of only six that received maximum funding throughout the state.
“Johnson Central has been the gold standard for over a decade in offering the most pathways for students of any single school in the eastern half of Kentucky including Lexington and Louisville,” said Noel Crum, Assistant Superintendent and CTE Coordinator for Johnson County Schools. “This grant will allow us to realize our dream of having the best facilities to complement and match the outstanding programs and opportunities we currently offer our students.”
The SFCC grant of $10 million will be combined with the bonding available to the district to construct a new Johnson Central High School and CTE Center.
“This grant is the icing on the cake to combine with the strong support from our community and board of education, to take the necessary steps for realizing this dream,” said Johnson County Superintendent Thom Cochran.
Earning this grant now sets a rapid timeline as a completed building plan (BG-1) must be approved and bids must be in place by September 1, 2022.
“The timing of this grant opportunity is perfect as there has never been a greater need for providing our students the best facilities in eastern Kentucky which will allow our superior CTE programs to continue growing and providing transitions to successful outcomes for our students,” said JCHS CTE Principal Monica Daniel. “We already offer the most opportunities of any school in the area, but our students also deserve new facilities like we see throughout neighboring counties here in our region.”
