Attention Seniors interested in Duke or UNC Chapel Hill The Robertson Scholars Leadership Program application is now open and can be found at www.robertsonscholars.embark.com . As a counselor for Johnson Central High School, you had a student who applied for the Robertson in the last application cycle, therefore we wanted to make sure you were aware of a few changes we have made this year. · Students may now apply for the Robertson Scholarship at UNC even if they are interested in other UNC scholarship opportunities. · We will not require ACT or SAT scores in this application cycle. · We have shortened the application. It now requires only 2 essays and limits the number of activities a student may list. · Our finalist interviews will be conducted virtually this year. They will take place in early March (3-4 weeks earlier than in previous years). Ideal Robertson candidates are students who appear destined to become values-based leaders, not simply students with the best GPA or highest test scores. Traditionally the students who succeed in our application process and in our program hold a passionate interest in something and show strong evidence of that passion in the activities they pursue. The Robertson application deadline is November 15, 2021. Thank you again for the thought and time you put into each of your students’ university and scholarship applications and for continuing to partner with us as we seek the next generation of leaders. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me at brody@robertsonscholars.org. Sincerely, Kay-Frances Brody, J.D. If you are a high performing 9th-11th grader, you should take the PSAT/NMSQT on October 13, 2020, at JCHS. The fee is $18 (cash or check payable to JCHS) and is due September 15 to Mrs. Caudill in the main office. Once you pay the fee, Mrs. Caudill will register you for the test. Fee waivers are available for 11th grade students who don't live with their natural parents, who are in foster care or are adopted, receive food stamps or medicaid, or fall within the income guidelines linked below. The PSAT/NMSQT is a test that mimics an SAT and also places you in a pool for National Merit Scholarship and recognition (only when taken in 11th grade). For practice exams and what to expect on test day, visit the link below. https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt-psat-10
