The Johnson County Board of Education is proud to share highlights from the recent board meeting held on November 20th. The spotlight shone brightly on the Johnson Central Volleyball Team, alongside their dedicated coaches and parents, as they were recognized for an exceptional season.
The Johnson County School District proudly introduced the innovative School-Based IT Generalist apprenticeship, a first for Kentucky, developed in partnership with Career Support Specialist/Math Interventionist Ms. Amanda Austin, Superintendent Thom Cochran, District Technology Coordinator Mike Whitaker, and Community Schools Coordinator/Digital Learning Instructional Coach Mr. Andrew Castle. This program, which has already attracted 12 students, promises to equip participants with hands-on training, fair pay, and raises, concluding with a professional certification. The initiative, which aligns with the JCHS Career & Technical Program, is a commitment to equipping students for the evolving job market, with recognition for the effort presented by Kayla Jude and Jennifer Hampton from the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet.
Superintendent Thom Cochran was honored by Bob Hutchison, Chairman of the Board, and JC Board Members for his exemplary commitment and service to the Johnson County School District. Mr. Hutchison and the board also recognized Mr. Cochran, who received the Kentucky Educational Development Corporation (KEDC) Superintendent of the Year Award.
Mrs. Heather Butcher, the District Assessment Coordinator, shared the district's academic strengths reflected in the Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) scores. Johnson Central High School ranked within the top 25 high schools statewide, showcasing the district's pursuit of educational excellence. Highland, Porter, and W.R. Castle schools were also acknowledged for their strong performance, placing in the 25th percentile of state elementary rankings. Central, Flat Gap and Johnson County Middle School were recognized for their academic growth and improvements.

With each achievement and new program, we enable our Eagles to soar to new heights, ensuring they have the skills and education to thrive in a dynamic and ever-changing world.
